Executive Board Responsibilites


President (or Co-Presidents)

  • Oversee club; ensure officers carry out duties; delegate responsibilities.
  • Ultimately responsible for website, MailChimp, and Facebook.
  • Manage internal/external relations.
  • Organize and lead meetings.
  • Have a tentative schedule for each semester, provide a clear agenda for each meeting, create Google document for club reference and future planning.
  • Arrange for pro-life apologetics trainings and mock debates on the issues.

  • Create email drafts on mailchimp with relevant information about meetings and events (Assist Secretary).
  • Work with Student Counselor, regarding PureChat and sidewalk counseling/prayerful presence and protest.
  • Responsible for interviews (review with Media and Publicity Coordinator).
  • Remember that all interviews should be conducted via email where possible.
  • Make certain that the transition of leadership runs smoothly.
  • Meet with the Dean of Students, as necessary.
  • Assume the responsibility of Treasurer when no Treasurer has been appointed.
  • In the case of co-presidency, there may not be a vice president. As such, during a co-presidency, the co-presidents will also be responsible for the Student Activities Fair (including the poster or banner, providing informational flyers about VFL and the cause of life, candy), helping the Pregnancy Resources Coordinator, and assisting the Student Counselor.

Vice-President

(Not a position when there are Co-Presidents).
  • Assist President in all duties, especially in planning meetings.
  • Run meetings in the absence of the President.
  • Responsible for Student Activities Fair (create poster/bring VFL banner, be prepared for discussion, know VFL’s mission, provide resource list and distribute flyers/information about the club and planned/proposed events, bring candy and a plastic tablecloth).
  • Responsible for assisting in email interviews (review with Media and Publicity Coordinator).
  • Help Pregnancy Resources Coordinator with Pregnant on Campus initiative.
  • Help plan sidewalk counseling and/or prayer presence and protest.
  • Become President, if the President resigns.
  • Assume the responsibilities of the Secretary when no Secretary has been appointed.
  • Help make certain that the transition of leadership runs smoothly.

Secretary

  • Work closely with President to manage internal communications: mailchimp/group email.
  • Manage membership, especially by assisting at the Student Activities Fair every semester.
  • Take notes during meetings: send an email that recaps each meeting for members unable to attend (mailchimp).
  • Be in close communication with the President regarding club agenda and internal communications.
  • May be combined with another executive board position, or the responsibilities may be assumed by the Vice President.

Treasurer

  • Handle all financial matters relating to group, including individual reimbursements.
  • Especially help in payments for websites, transport to conferences and VFL clothing orders.
  • Help plan fundraisers and manage the financial portion of said fundraisers.
  • Work with other officers as they plan events requiring funds.
  • Required to personally be JHU van-certified or secure another club member to be in the case of need for attendance at off-campus events.
  • May be combined with another executive board position, or the responsibilities may be assumed by the President or Co-Presidents.

Pregnancy Resources Coordinator

(This position goes well when combined with Student Counselor).
  • Manage the Pregnant on Campus initiative.
  • Work with the Vice President and Student Counselor.
  • Work on file found in the google drive folder named Pregnancy Resource/Pregnant on Campus Initiative.
  • Investigate Johns Hopkins policies and accommodations regarding expectant student mothers and parenting students.
  • Organize volunteering at local crisis pregnancy center (as a group at least 1x semester).
  • Attempt Diaper/Baby Supplies Drive in the Fall.
  • Attempt Blessing Bags for New and Expecting Mothers in the Spring.

On-Campus Activism Coordinator

(This position goes well when combined with Off-Campus Outreach Coordinator).
  • Plan on-campus activism projects, like the Diaper Drive and Mother’s Day Blessing Bags.
  • Work closely with the President to plan and execute successful events.
  • Help plan off-campus outreach projects, like the volunteering at the  pregnancy center.
  • Coordinate member participation at activism events.
  • Attend any meetings with the Dean regarding on-campus activism events.
  • Be aware of organizations that can help (such as Students for Life and Defend Life).

Off-Campus Outreach Coordinator  

(This position goes well when combined with On-Campus Activism Coordinator).
  • Work closely with On-Campus Activism Coordinator and Pregnancy Resources Coordinator.
  • Help plan on-campus activism projects, like the Diaper Drive and Mother’s Day Blessing Bags.
  • Coordinate member participation at outreach events (create surveys to gauge interest/ organize transport as needed).
  • Required to personally be JHU van-certified or secure another club member to be in the case of need for attendance at off-campus events.
  • Be aware of organizations that can help (such as Students for Life of America and Defend Life).

Pro-Life Apologetics Coordinator

  • Responsible for being personally up-to-date on pro-life apologetics and ensuring that all club members receive pro-life apologetics training prior to events and as needed throughout the semester.
  • Print and/or electronically distribute pro-life apologetics materials to club members for each club meeting (preferably with varied focus).
  • Responsible for providing the President/Secretary with a “pro-life article or video of the week” for use in the email blasts.
  • Arrange for pro-life apologetics trainings and mock debates on the issues.

  • Encourage club members to attend the March for Life every January, and attend other pro-life conferences (including but not limited to those provided by Students for Life of America).

Student Counselor

(This position goes well when combined with Pregnancy Resources Coordinator).
  • Responsible for PureChat (anonymous chat through the pregnantatjhu.org website).
  • Work closely with the Sidewalk Counseling and Prayerfyul Protest Coordinator.
  • Required to personally be JHU van-certified or secure another club member to be in the case of need for attendance at off-campus events.
  • Advise fellow club members of the emotional support and help available to them (like the JHU Counseling Center) if and when the need arises.
  • Ensure that we have flyers/information available (box is currently in the Newman Center of the JHCC), especially for sidewalk counseling, campus activism events, and Student Activities Fair. Always have resource list available.

Media and Publicity Coordinator

  • Work with Secretary to manage facebook, twitter, website (know that mailchimp can post to facebook).
  • Responsible for press releases and take pictures at events.
  • Assist the President during interviews. Remember that all interviews should be conducted via email with all Executive Board members CC’d and that a statement should always be included to make crystal clear that the words should only be used in their context so as to preserve the meaning of VFL’s response. (An example:  We kindly request that you neither change the words nor meaning of our statement nor edit it in any way prior to paper or online publication without express written permission.)
  • Help the President and Secretary with media and internal communications, as needed.
  • Especially, assist the Vice President at Student Activities Fair (create poster/bring VFL banner, be prepared for discussion, know VFL’s mission, provide resource list and distribute flyers/information about the club and planned/proposed events, bring candy and a plastic tablecloth).

Sidewalk Counseling and Prayerful Protest Coordinator

  • Work with President, Off-Campus Outreach Coordinator, and Student Counselor to plan off-campus sidewalk counseling and prayerful protest volunteer dates/times outside of local Baltimore abortion clinics.
  • Must be aware of abortion clinics scheduling (like the local Planned Parenthood, reach out to Tom Hughes [at thommhg@gmail.com] with questions).
  • Plan sidewalk counseling and/or prayerful presence and protest outside abortion mills (at least 1x/semester).
  • Arrange trainings for members interested in sidewalk counseling (which can be a club meeting topic).
  • Required to personally be JHU van-certified or secure another club member to be in the case of need for attendance at off-campus events.
  • Responsible for being aware of proper contacts for any legal questions (first step: Students for Life of America’s Capital Area Regional Coordinator).
  • Must be well-versed in pro-life terminology and logic.
  • Must actively participate in pro-life apologetics trainings and encourage club members to attend pro-life apologetics trainings as organized by the Pro-Life Apologetics Coordinator.
  • Should help train the next Sidewalk Counseling and Prayerful Protest Coordinator.
