[VFL] Recap of last VFL Meeting!
Recap of VFL Meeting:
At the last meeting, we discussed the Respect Life Day that took place on campus on October 20th and freedom of speech on our campus, in light of the commentary from the other side because of the chalk messages that were part of the event. Also, we practiced using culture of life vocabulary in mock discussions to prepare for future events on campus and for the upcoming VFL-VFC debate (date and time TBA).
Review of Respect Life Day:
Respect Life Day went really well on October 20th! We chalked pro-life messages on the Levering courtyard and handed out 220 cupcakes as part of Pro-Life Cupcake Day. We also participated in the national Pro-Life Day of Silent Solidarity (a day early) and gave up our voices for the 3,300 children who will lost theirs due to “choice” on the same day. To read about how powerful a silent message can be, read this article .
We also heard back from a student who told us that it is because of one of our events that he is now firmly pro-life. Our events are truly making a different and changing hearts!
Interestingly, the counter-protest to our event didn’t take place at the event or in the Johns Hopkins Newsletter. We found the opposition discussing, in large part, the chalking that was part of our event on Facebook (specifically on #whattofix Hopkins). The main concern that the other side presented is that there should be censorship of our counter-cultural pro-life message on the Homewood campus.
Rock for Life Benefit Concert:
Rock for Life is hosting a benefit concert on Saturday, November 8th at 7pm in Columbia, MD (about half an hour from Homewood). The concert will feature local talent to promote awareness on pro-life issues faced by students today. All proceeds will benefit the Rock for Life program to raise money for the resources used on college campuses. Cost is $8 online or $10 at the door. For more information, click here .
Voice for Life T-Shirts:
We apologize for the delay in getting our t-shirts but they have been ordered and should be in by our next meeting on November 10th. The cost is $7 and can be paid when you pick-up the shirt.
Possible Event: Your Voice Counts!
Voice for Life is looking into doing a polling table on campus on Monday, November 3rd. We will send out more information as soon as we know!
