Rick Santorum, Mike Huckabee and George Will Support Voice for Life

Former Presidential Candidate and US Senator Rick Santorum, who is giving a lecture for FAS at Hopkins on Tuesday at 8 pm in Mudd Hall on JHU Campus, wrote the following about VFL on his facebook:

“On which side of this issue are the extremists?” http://ptrtvoic.es/ZgTGAu

Washington Post editorial by George Will featuring Voice for Life and Mr. Santorum, in what was its #1 most popular editorial for a day and a half,  has been reprinted in newspapers around the country.

Former Presidential Candidate and Governor of Arkansas, Mike Huckabee, also wrote in support of Voice for Life on Facebook:

“Johns Hopkins University is famous for its medical program, but maybe it needs to add a class on the Bill of Rights. The Student Government Association voted to ban a pro-life group called Voice for Life from being an official school club. The reason: seeing their pro-life displays makes pro-abortion students feel harassed and violated. An SGA spokesman said, “I understand people’s right to freedom of speech, but this is a private university, and as such, we have the right to protect our students from things that are uncomfortable.”

Actually, I don’t think he understands freedom of speech at all. Or the purpose of a university. But it gets worse: in emails obtained by Fox News, SGA members compared the pro-life students to white supremacists. That was especially upsetting for the members who happen to be African-American. Incidentally, on the same day the SGA banned the pro-life group, they approved a pro-Palestinian student group that reportedly has a history of violence and anti-Semitism at other schools. So apparently, Johns Hopkins student leaders are as unclear on what prejudice means as they are on the meaning of freedom of speech.”
