VFL Events and Updates for This Week (4/7-4/14)

There are lots of events going on this week, so please come to as many as you can! It’s going to be an exciting week!

Tuesday 4/9
  • Deliver petitions w/ Sarah from Students for Life @ 11am

I am looking for some pro-life students to come help me deliver over 5,000 petitions to the Maryland Board of Health on Tuesday around 11am (I am open to any time before 2pm if that would suit some of you better). The address is 4201 Patterson Avenue Baltimore, Maryland 21215 and the closest Metro stop is Reistertown Plaza Station. If you would be able to help me out and meet me there to help me carry in the petitions and be willing to even be a part of a video that will go out to our (as well as other pro-life orgs) national email lists then please shoot me an email at smaher@studentsforlife.org or call me at (917) 974-6830 and we can plan a time to deliver the petitions. If you don’t know much about the petitions we are delivering they are to show the outrage that Dr Leroy Carhart who is recently responsible for the death of Jennifer Morbelli is still being allowed to perform late-term abortions (30 to 39 weeks!) in Maryland without any consequences. We want the Maryland Board of Health to see that we are serious about caring about the life of the mother who died due to Dr Carhart’s lack of care and will not sit quietly by. If you haven’t signed the petition yet than you can go to http://stopcarhart.com/. Hope you all are doing well and that I will be hearing from you soon!

Capitol Area Regional Coordinator

  • VFL vs. JHU SGA trial @ 5 pm.
Unfortunately, no vistors are being admitted to this event, but we will all meet afterwards at Santorum’s talk. Please pray for Chris Fernandez and Andrew Guernsey as they prepare for to make the case before the SGA Judiciary for why our group should be re-recognized by SGA.
  • Sen. Santorum Speech @ 8 pm Mudd Hall –
Photo Opportunity with pro-life Senator Santorum and VFL members after the talk. We should all sit together so that we can come directly up for the photo right after the talk. Sen. Santorum has posted about VFL on his facebook page. So please come. This is not an endorsement by VFL of the Republican party, but solely of Santorum’s courageous defense of life—arguing against partial birth abortion even when it was not popular. Santorum was also  featured with VFL in what has become a viral Washington Post editorial about our story.
Friday 4/12
  • VFL Meeting @ 5:30 pm – MSE D12

Topics of discussion: where we go from here, links on website, right to life table at spring fair, elections for next year, right to life dinner, sidewalk counseling, video.
  • Pro-Life Table at JHU Spring Fair
North Baltimore Pro Life Study Group has asked us to help with their booth at the Hopkins Spring Fair. I would like to have 2 or 3 people per shift ideally. I am not asking anyone to hang around till 8 p.m. so the shifts would be 10-noon, noon-2, 2-4, and 4-6. Hope you can help, even for an hour. It’ll be a lot of fun! Let me know if you can take any of these shifts. There will be lots of pro-life educational materials and stages of fetal development models too. A great and easy way to start discussion about life issues! Email jhuvoiceforlife@gmail.com if you can take any of these shifts.

Keep it up everyone! All the craziness will be over within a week, God willing, and that’s when the public eye gets taken off of us and our real work starts, at times in the quiet…in the silence…as we build a culture of life here at JHU and Baltimore. The media attention we have been getting for our merely planned pro-life work is quite an anomaly. We have to remember why we are doing what we are doing. It’s not only about helping the mothers and babies avoid the horrible tragedy of abortion, it’s about building a culture of life wherein life is a promising choice for everyone.
The truth will set us free!
